An on-line quilt group had a challenge, the subject was the Winter Solstice, the quilt had to be no larger than 160 inches (400cm) around, it had to contain a traditional block and certain techniques had to be used. lives in Hawaii where the winter solstice is of little significance, so she looked up the internet and found Newgrange on Knowth.com. The quilt was started at the beginning of September 2004 and the front was finished by the Winter Solstice 2004. Except for the mound itself, it is made of quilting blocks named "Irish chain". The border has some of the petroglyphs found on the kerbstones around the mound. The quilt is 55 x 25" (137 x 62 cm). |
